Vintage Gear Store Day with Guitarist, Dan Moses From The Dynotones
Dynotones’ guitarist, Dan Moses and I hit the streets this week to do some vintage guitar shop hopping. First we hit Eagle Rock and visited Future Sound and then we blasted over to Chinatown and hung out for awhile in Caveman Vintage Music. Our goal was not only to look for records and rare gear finds, but to test some of the custom cables we have been creating from SLUGS and see how they would work with some vintage gear. As we sat around making C.V.M our own personal sound studio, we got to talking about making Surf style music.

Making SLUG Cables On The Fly With John ‘Big Drag’ Saletra, Lords of Altamont
I got a chance to stop by Lords of Altamont’s studio and visit guitarist, John Saletra (aka, “Big Drag”) before they were heading back on tour and help him set up his board. John shared a few stories about their European tour and one in particular about the need for a cable on the fly right before a performance. It seems that a roadie had wrapped up the gig with a few cables hanging out of the case. Because of this, the plug on one of John’s 30’ guitar cords broke at the plug. “It’s a good thing that I had some SLUGs in my bag along with a roll of cable. I just cut a length of cord, put the connectors on, and I was ready to go!”

The Kills: Future Starts Slow Video
Hince’s grated guitar riffs and Mosshart’s exorcised singing work together to build tension. Lots of tension. That was neatly visualized by a Bullet Cable coiled cord on one of Hince’s guitars.

From Down Under: Tame Impala
Tame Impala can be described as "a steady flowing psychedelic groove rock band that emphasizes dream-like melody", but they are hardly out of control like a bad trip sometimes experienced with the uninitiated. Maybe the 'Tame' in the name describes their earthy, raw sound where the melody is on, while the guitar tones are fuzzy and dirty adding an edge to the hypnotic vocals and therefore elevating the music from mere garage rock genre.
