Fuzz Box Girl Wiring Her Big Muff Pedals Using SLUGS

Fuzz Box Girl- Bullet Cable-SLUG

You all know about my love for all things Bullet Cable… and it’s not just because I think they look super duper cool, but the cables are also engineered extremely well. I have had my white coily for probably about 10 years now, and the grime on it can prove it, and I have yet to have any problems with it. So, it is like a guitarist fashion statement, except that you are not sacrificing quality. It’s like their slogan says, “Expert Sound Disguised As Cool Stuff”

Fuzzboxgirl will be performing test comparisons for the multiple generations of MuffBoxes by Dalectro. For her demos she asked us to suggest the most economical way to wire the setup using SLUG connectors. The Kit is always a selection, but more and more we are working with artists and techs wiring up larger formations.

For instance, another musician wrote:

I’m a rack guy. My setup consists of a GSP1101 set to external preamp mode. I use a Rocktron Patchmate to cycle between three different preamps (ENGL e530, R&R SL/LD, and ADA MP-1). Then, I goose it a little with a stereo BBE Sonic Maximizer which feeds a VHT 2/90/2 poweramp going to two 4×12′s. That’s alot of patch cables.
MetalDaze, SevenString.org

For projects requiring 20 or more cables, we suggest the SLUG (50) piece towers sold containing either the straight connectors or the angle connectors. Yes, we did the math and a tower actually makes 25 cables, but heck, if you are making 20 you are probably a serious gear freak and you should use the extra connectors in no time. You’ll need to get DIY Bulk Cable by the foot, but we sell it in rolls of 100 and 200 feet. Savings is about a buck a connector over the Kit. [SHOP]

All You Need For Serious DIY Connections

In the meantime, while you are figuring out how best to hook up your own setups, let us present the Princess of Gear, Fuzz Box Girl:

Green Tuesday: Or, How to Think Greener When Buying Gifts

Okay, so you got through Black Friday and Cyber Monday…But wait! There’s more!
Green Tuesday!

Green Gifts For Musicians
Gifts that will last a long time are one way to think greener!

Green Tuesday is a way for retailers to enlighten us with low environmental impact gifts and another day of frenzied discounted spending.

Buying green in the music performance and recording industry, as a whole, poses a few challenges. Our industry thrives on all things wood, metal, plastic, and paper (giving that one some thought…). What exactly are your choices? Fabric straps? Cloth gig bags? Maybe digital sheet music? And–forget about that Gibson guitar with rare wood inlays showing up under the tree this year, boys and girls!

So how do we participate in a Green Tuesday as a community of buyers?

Bullet Cable suggests that we consider Think Greener Tuesday instead! If successfully executed, the discounted shopping event should be directed at the consciousness of the buyer to purchase the longest lasting music gear and accessories that one can buy, with the solid commitment to not sell and buy cheaply made stuff. We are talking about the offering of quality, not quantity for one solid day at a discount. (Bargain bins are most likely excluded.)

Our one day motto should be: It is not okay that the gift I purchase for my loved one (or myself) should break or fall apart with regular use!

Think about the savings and the win win for everyone!
We did a piece on copper mining a while back: How To Wrap & Store Your Cable (and Be Good To The Planet)

Put your feet up and spend today doing research about the gifts you want to give or receive. As you feel inspired, buy at discount if it is being offered. All that running through malls on Friday and finger surfing on Monday is worth one day of rest.

Happy Think Greener Tuesday!

Making SLUG Cables On The Fly With John ‘Big Drag’ Saletra, Lords of Altamont

I got a chance to stop by Lords of Altamont’s studio and visit guitarist, John Saletra (aka, “Big Drag”) before they were heading back on tour and help him set up his board. John shared a few stories about their European tour and one in particular about the need for a cable on the fly right before a performance. It seems that a roadie had wrapped up the gig with a few cables hanging out of the case. Because of this, the plug on one of John’s 30’ guitar cords broke at the plug. “It’s a good thing that I had some SLUGs in my bag along with a roll of cable. I just cut a length of cord, put the connectors on, and I was ready to go!”

Brings us to a good point: Carry extra cable and a few SLUGs! It won’t take up much room, and you can make on the fly cables as needed. (Another good point: Don’t let your roadie disrespect your cables!@$#@)

This is John’s board cleaned up with Bullet Cable SLUG connectors:

John Saletra's Pedal Board using SLUG DIY

If you want this setup, you are going to need 14 SLUG angle connectors, 5 SLUG straight connectors and about 63 feet of Bulk Cable. As you can see, we made (2) 30 feet runs to the amps. Also, you will need:

1. Dunlop Cry Baby – Wah
2. Secret Handmade FUZZ
3. Catalinbread SFI -Overdrive
4. Ibanez – Tremolo/Pan
5. Line6 – Echo Park
6. EHX – Small Stone
7. Vintage – Echoplex
– Powered by a Dunlop DC Brick
Amplifiers – HIWATT – 50 /FENDER – Showman
Guitars – Gibson Firebird
And: A bad ass Black Coil Cable!

Ted McCann: Bite the Bullet by Daniel O

Ted McCann was recently interviewed by The Tone King’s Daniel O. If you get a chance, check out the story. Gives a good back story to Coil Cable and a few kind words are shared. Bite The Bullet by Daniel O

Ted McCann. Article About Bullet Cable on The Tone King

“It’s a distinctive aesthetic and even visceral appeal to the eye somehow and sometimes it takes a genuine artist—like Ted McCann clearly is as a result of his unmistakable drive and bonafide artistic leanings. It feels like you’re talking with the Steve Jobs of guitar cable.”

How can we argue with that?
