Paul Gilbert Unleashes New Album ‘Fuzz Universe’ On Planet Earth
Bullet Cable endorser Paul Gilbert’s ‘Fuzz Universe‘ will be unleashed on an enthusiastic planet Earth, with Japan first, on June 30, 2010. This third instrumental album makes for a very interesting trifecta of guitar acrobatics.
Here’s the cover and some information!
Paul Gilbert (Racer X, Mr. Big, G3) is one of Japan’s most-loved and best-selling Western guitar heroes. Consistently given top ratings in reader’s polls in music magazines, his albums have sold several million copies in The Land Of The Rising Sun (and elsewhere). Gilbert is regarded as an inspiring pioneer in the “shred” genre. With over 20 years of recording, touring, and teaching experience to draw from, his versatility on his chosen instrument continues to shine.
Fuzz Universe, Gilbert’s third and newest offering, is said to be “his strongest guitar playing to date”. The “insanely fun” album is packed with “so much guitar playing that your head will explode.” Released on June 30, 2010 through WHD and Victor Entertainment in Japan, the album began to take form in March 2010. Like Gilbert’s past two instrumental albums, 2006′s Get Out Of My Yard and 2008′s Silence Followed By A Deafening Roar, this platter contains a variety of moods, dynamics, and melodies.
Besides the Hollywood Guitar Maniac playing “some of his most difficult work yet”, Fuzz Universe marks Gilbert’s premiere recording with the incredible technical talent of bassist Craig Martini. Martini toured with Gilbert’s band throughout Europe during autumn 2008. Familiar faces re-appear: Emi Gilbert’s skilled hands work the keyboards, and Jeff Bowders bashes new rhythms in to our bodies on the drums.
Gilbert’s varied influences are given time to shine. The opening track “Fuzz Universe”, a heavy riff-and-solo number, provides both a landing and an endpoint. “Plastic Dracula” continues with this intense metallic frenzy. “Count Juan Chutrifo” is said to nod to Hendrix and other bluesy artists. “…Chutrifo” is a clever wordplay, another specialty of Gilbert’s. Jimi Hendrix, ever-present, gets a nod in the titles as well as the music for “Will My Screen Door Stop Neptune” and “Don’t Rain On My Firewood”. On “Mantra The Lawn”, it’s Jeff Beck and Pat Travers we ‘hear’.
For the Japanese edition, a cover of Johnny Cash’s “Leave That Junk Alone” is included as a bonus track. Other covers include Todd Rundgren’s “Blue Orpheus” and an arrangement of J. S. Bach’s “Partita In D Minor”.
Gilbert is said to be one of rock’s most gifted guitarists. Set to inspire a new wave of six-string twangers, the rock ‘n’ roll of Fuzz Universe is a must-have for music aficionados everywhere on planet Earth. In addition to digital download through Amazon, Fuzz Universe will be released August 3 in the USA (Shrapnel), August 6 in Europe (Mascot), and August 9 in the UK (Mascot).
